How to Apply for a Reduced Fare ID
To obtain an RTA Reduced Fare ID card, complete the application from the link below. Alternatively, application forms are available at the RTA business office, 1825 Third Street in Riverside, or by calling our Customer Information Center at (951) 565-5002.
Five Easy Steps for Getting Your Card:
- Complete the Application for Reduced Fare ID Card
- Email one forward-facing color photo to . Photos with sunglasses or hats will not be accepted. Make sure to include your full name, date of birth, and the words “Reduced Fare ID” in the email. Driver’s license or state ID photos are not accepted.
- Enclose $2 cash or check for processing fee. Please make check payable to RTA.
- Mail application, appropriate documentation as stated on the application form, photo and processing fee to Riverside Transit Agency, Attention Reduced Fare ID Cards, PO Box 59968, Riverside CA 92517-1968.
Please allow seven to 10 days for your new card to arrive.
Seniors and Disabled
Any person who meets RTA disability requirements or seniors age 60 or above are eligible for a discounted fare on all RTA fixed-route services. Customers must show appropriate ID each time they board a bus to receive the discounted fare. Seniors may show proof of age when boarding the bus to receive the discounted fare or they may obtain an RTA Senior ID card. RTA Disabled ID cards, ADA ID cards, Senior ID cards and Medicare cards are accepted on the bus. Medi-Cal cards will not be accepted.
To receive your RTA Senior ID card, you must show a photo ID and proof of age 60 or above. There is a $2 fee for the Senior ID card.
To receive a Disabled ID card, individuals must show a photo ID and present a reduced fare application form completed by a licensed health care professional, special education teacher, or provide one of the following as proof of disability: Medicare ID card, DMV Disabled Person Placard Identification Card receipt, Braille Institute ID card, Disabled Veteran Service-Connected ID card, or a Social Security Disability Income Award Letter. Medi-Cal cards will not be accepted. There is a $2 fee for the Disabled ID card.
Note: Medicare Card Holder
Any person who displays their valid Medicare Card is eligible for a discounted fare on all RTA fixed-route services. Customers must show their Medicare Card each time they board a bus to receive the discounted fare.
Any person who meets RTA Veteran requirements, presents a valid U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs issued ID card or a U.S. Uniformed Services ID card indicating retired status. Customers must show appropriate ID each time they board a bus to receive the discounted fare.
RTA issued photo ID cards are available for veteran customers. There is a $2 fee for the ID card. To receive a Veteran ID card, individuals must present a Department of Defense Form 214 and a picture ID. Active Military, Police and Fire Personnel
Any person who meets RTA active duty military, police or fire personnel requirements rides free on RTA fixed-route buses. Active duty military personnel must wear the appropriate uniform at the time of boarding or present to the driver a valid U.S. Unformed Services ID card indicating active service or a Common Access card indicating uniformed services or active duty. Police and fire personnel must be in full uniform at the time of boarding. Customers must wear the appropriate uniform or show appropriate ID each time they board a bus to receive the discounted fare.
Youth (grades 1-12)
Students in grades 1-12 may purchase and use a discounted Youth 30-Day pass with an appropriate current student ID card. Discounted youth 1-Day, 7-Day and cash fares are not offered. RTA also offers Youth ID cards to anyone in grades 1 through 12. A Youth ID card costs $2. Child (46" tall and under)
The base cash fare for any child 46" tall or under is 50 cents on all local fixed route buses and $2.75 on CommuterLink buses. Must be accompanied by a full-fare paying passenger.
