Other adjustments will improve frequencies, enhance connections and reliability
Riding the bus in Riverside County is about to get better, especially if you ride an express bus. Next weekend, the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) will tweak — and in some cases greatly improve — several routes to boost service frequency, enhance performance and strengthen connections.
On Sunday, January 12, RTA will make schedule and route changes to more than 30 bus routes, affecting the lion’s share of every RTA route that serves western Riverside County and beyond. The majority of the routes will get minor adjustments while a few will get more substantial upgrades.
Perhaps the most significant improvement will be the arrival of all-day service aboard CommuterLink Express routes 204, 205, 206, 208 and 217. Until now, those routes operated mostly during morning and evening peak commute times. Beginning this Sunday, customers can take advantage of new mid-day trips, giving them more freedom to travel whenever they want.
That’s not all. As part of the system-wide upgrades, RTA will provide faster weekend service aboard routes 16 and 19 so buses will arrive every 15 minutes instead of every 30-40 minutes. For customers who use these routes, this means less time waiting for the bus and a faster trip to destinations in Moreno Valley, Perris and Riverside, including Moreno Valley Mall, UC Riverside, Moreno Valley College and the Perris Station Transit Center, where they can connect with Metrolink trains to more distant destinations.
“It’s always a pleasure to give people another great reason to ride the bus,” said RTA Chair Bridgette Moore. “These improvements reflect our focus on evolving in a positive way to meet our customers’ changing travel needs.”
RTA routes undergoing schedule and/or routing changes include the 1, 3, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 41, 42, 51, 54, 61, 74, 79 and CommuterLink Express routes 200, 204, 205, 206, 208 and 217. RTA typically makes service adjustments every four months.
More information on the changes can be found in the new Ride Guide and Service Change Guide available on buses and online here.
