May
The
following actions were taken
during the RTA’s Board of
Directors
monthly
meeting on Thursday, May
25, 2006:
Board
members opened a public hearing
period for members of the
public to review and comment
on the Agency’s proposed
Short Range Transit Plan
and budget for
Fiscal
Year 2007. The proposed Short
Range Transit Plan shows
a 1 percent decrease in revenue
service hours and a 3 percent
decrease in revenue service
miles compared to the current
•scal year. The decreases
are largely due to the realignment
and
reduction
of service on unproductive
routes. The proposed $43.6
million operating budget
re•ects a 7 percent increase
from the current •scal year.
The proposed budgets are developed
to support the Agency’s goals
of increased ridership, providing
excellent
customer service and cost-containment
through improved ef•ciencies.
RTA’s
Board of Directors approved
a public hearing on May 30,
2006 at the Mead Valley Community
Center, 21091 Rider Street,
in Perris to receive comments
on the Agency’s application
for capital funds for •scal
year 2007. The Agency’s funding
request will focus on rural
bus stop improvements, including
bus stop shelters, benches
and concrete pads in the
rural areas of Mead Valley,
Meadowbrook and Quail Valley.
Board
members were briefed on RTA’s
upcoming plans to commemorate
Memorial Day. Hoping to bring
more attention to the holiday,
RTA will issue public service
announcements and post special
messages on its website and
aboard buses. The Agency
will also hand out Memorial
Day stickers to passengers.
Board
members were also briefed
on the increased ridership
on CommuterLink Route 206.
Over the past 30 days, ridership
on CommuterLink Route 206
has grown roughly 60 percent,
prompting the Agency to add
a second bus to the route.
Many passengers say rising
gas prices has caused them
to try the bus. RTA Board
Member Ron Roberts was credited
for bringing the issue to
the Agency’s attention.
The
next board meeting will be
held on Thursday, June 22
at 2 p.m.
