The
following actions were taken
during the RTA’s Board of
Directors monthly meeting
on Thursday, November 17,
2005:
RTA
received glowing feedback
from an independent auditor
who concluded that the Agency
is operating effectively and
making effi cient use of its
funds. The audit, which covered
RTA’s activities during Fiscal
Year 2005, concluded that
there were no disagreements
with management, no material
errors, irregularities or
possible illegal acts. The
audit noted that RTA not only
met but exceeded the state’s
minimum farebox ratio. It
also determined that RTA’s
accounting and financial reporting
were accurate and followed
proper procedures.
RTA
revealed a list of tentative
projects that would be funded
by a $1 million settlement
with its current Dial-A-Ride
contractor MV Transportation
Inc. The Agency wants to use
the bulk of the money ---
roughly $800,000 --- for various
projects, including bus shelters
for senior centers, on-board
video cameras and computer
software that enables passengers
to use voice-activated technology
to schedule and check on their
trips. The Agency also discussed
the possibility of offering
free trips to Dial-A-Ride
passengers affected by late
arrivals.
In
an effort to provide a safer
New Year’s Eve, RTA will offer
free bus service on all its
38 fi xed routes from 6 p.m.
to the end of business on
Saturday, December 31. Board
members authorized the free
service as a way to support
passengers who are working
that evening, or those customers
who do not want to drive during
the holiday.
Board
members congratulated longtime
RTA driver Ron Dickey for
recently winning the Southern
California Regional Bus Roadeo.
Winning that contest wasn’t
an easy task. Ron had to drive
a 14-ton bus around an obstacle
course of quick turns, stops
and tight clearances. He also
had to compete against the
region’s best drivers. But
Ron still managed to get fi
rst place, taking home three
trophies: two for himself
and one for RTA. Ron’s victory
at the regional contest allowed
him to compete this September
at the International Bus Roadeo
in Dallas, TX, where he took
19th place overall.
The
next board meeting will be
held on Thursday, December
15 at 2 p.m. For more information,
