AtFebruarysRTA Board of Directors meeting,Supervisor Bob Buster receivedhonors for his ten yearsof service on the RTA Board.Board Chairman Ameal Moorepresented Buster with aplaque in recognition ofhis decade of service. Busterwas appointed to RTAsBoard in January 1993 torepresent the County ofRiverside. As CommitteeChairman to the Board AdministrativeCommittee he has providedvaluable input to the Agencysday-to-day operations.
InFebruary, Canyon Lake MayorFrank Kessler received honorsfor five years of serviceon the RTA Board of Directors.Kessler was first appointedto the RTA Board as an alternatein 1998. He then becamea Board Member in 2001 andbecame active on the BoardOperations Committee. AtFebruarysboard meeting, ChairmanAmeal Moore presented Kesslerwith a money clip in recognitionof his service.
TheRTA Board of Directors hasgiven RTA approval to updatea Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with the City of Riversidethat will allow RTA to continueimproving the efficiencyof transportation for personswith disabilities. The MOUcalls for RTA to coordinatewith Riverside Special Services(RSS), the Citysparatransit system, to reducethe duplication of servicesbetween the two agencies.The Board agreed that byestablishing an MOU, RTAwill better be able to maximizeservices for persons withdisabilities.
Asapproved by the RTA board,a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) is now in the worksbetween RTA and San BernadinosOmnitrans for two inter-countyroutes. Once approved bythe Board, the MOU willbecome effective in July2003. Both agencies planto operate two separateroutes between their respectivecounties. RTA will operatea new commuter route betweenRiverside and Montclairand Omnitrans will takeover operations of Route100 between Riversidesdowntown terminal and SanBernadinos4th St.Transit Mall.
Twoof RTAsupcoming commuter routeswhich will connect Temeculato Oceanside and Riversideto Orange County will carrya $4 fare, as approved bythe RTA Board in February.The Board also agreed toutilize RTAscurrent fare structure foradditional commuter routesincluding Riverside to Montclair,Sun City to Riverside andTemecula to Corona. TheBoard concluded that potentialridership on these routeswould be greater at theexisting fare structure.
Representativefrom Caltrans presentedthe RTA Board of Directorswith plans for CTP, a state-wide,long-range transportationplan proposed for the year2025. The goal of the planis to provide for safe,effective mobility and accessibilityof people, goods, and servicesin California. Caltransis currently solicitingfeedback on CTP from transitagencies throughout thestate.
