RIVERSIDE, CA — June 2, 2008 — Grab your sunblock, put on your shades and flip-flops and climb aboard the Riverside Transit Agency’s (RTA) Beach Bus, which begins this month and will roll all summer long with express service from Southwest Riverside County to Oceanside.
Beginning June 16, RTA’s Route 202 will operate extended seven-day-a-week service and pick up passengers at the Murrieta Wal-Mart and Temecula Promenade Mall before heading to surf and sand of Oceanside. The $3.75-round-trip service is a bargain for students on vacation, surfers, swimmers and sun worshippers looking for a convenient way to the beach.
And don’t forget, our Route 202 buses are equipped with free satellite television and wireless Internet.
“Getting to the beach has never been easier,” said RTA Board Chairman Karen Spiegel. “Not only is the Beach Bus a stress-free alternative to driving, it’s also a great way to save money this summer.”
When RTA launched the Beach Bus last year, it resulted in a ridership increase on Route 202 as students, families and senior citizens took advantage of the express service, which takes roughly one-hour from Murrieta to Oceanside. During the month of August, for example, ridership skyrocketed 145 percent compared to the same month a year before.
The Beach Bus welcomes boogie boards, surfboards, beach bags and other beach gear. Surfboard must be no longer than six-feet long and have a carrier bag. Carry-on bags should be limited to two.
The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 39 fixed routes, 7 commuter routes and 15 demand response services. RTA’s service area spans 2,500 square miles, the second-largest in the nation.
