RIVERSIDE/MORENO
VALLEY BUS ROUTE TO GET FACELIFT
Public
comments prompt RTA to make improvements
to Route 17
Beginning
next week, shoppers headed to
the new Super Wal-Mart in Moreno
Valley will bene•t from a newly
improved transportation service
that can avoid the stress of traf•c
and save gas money.
The
Riverside Transit Agency (RTA)
recently answered a growing number
of customer requests by overhauling
Route 17. The upgraded service,
which begins Aug. 16, will eliminate
nonproductive portions of the
route and extend service to major
points of interest, including
the popular retail outlet.
The
route, which serves parts of Riverside
and Moreno Valley, will include
stops at the new Super Wal-Mart
on Moreno Beach Drive, as well
as Valley View High School, Moreno
Valley Mall and the Riverside
County Regional Medical Center.
Future plans call for the route
to also serve the planned Super
Target.
RTA’s
Board of Directors approved the
route changes last month in hopes
of boosting route productivity
and meeting the changing needs
of customers.
“Our
customers have spoken and we are
delivering a service based on
their speci•c needs,” said RTA
Chairman Jeff Fox. “This new-and-improved
route is part of RTA’s commitment
to meet the needs of this changing
region.”
RTA
improved the route by deleting
•ve unproductive miles on its
western end adding three miles
to the eastern end. The deleted
portion of the route served a
former Department of Motor Vehicle
location west of the Moreno Valley
Mall.
The
Riverside Transit Agency provides
public transportation for Western
Riverside County, operating 38
• xed routes, 5 commuter routes
and 15 demand response services.
RTA’s service area spans 2,500
square miles, the second-largest
in the nation. For bus route and
