RTA
DONATES RETIRED VEHICLE TO CHURCH
Nine
months
after their last van was stolen,
members of the Fellowship in
the
Pass Church will again travel
in style thanks to a vehicle-donation
program that gave away a 12-passenger
van to the church.
The
Riverside Transit Agency (RTA)
donated the retired vehicle to
the Beaumont church this week
during an of•cial key-passing
ceremony at RTA headquarters in
Riverside. Attending the event
was RTA Chairman and Beaumont
Mayor Jeff Fox, RTA CEO Larry
Rubio and the church’s pastor,
Ray Johnson.
“This
is an exciting program that prolongs
the useful life of these vehicles
and allows nonpro•t groups to
enhance their services,” Fox said.
“RTA is putting tax-payer dollars
to good use by giving these vehicles
a longer, more productive life.”
Dozens
of cities, churches, senior centers
and non-pro•t groups have bene•
tted from the vehicle-donation
program. The past few years have
been busy for RTA, which has donated
more than 35 buses to nonpro•t
groups across western Riverside
County. The vehicles have surpassed
their recommended service life,
but they are in excellent running
condition when donated.
Pastor
Johnson said the donated vehicle
will come in handy for youth camps,
retreats and mission trips.
“This
is a great opportunity for us,”
Johnson said. “After our last
vehicle was stolen, we heard about
the bus donation program, and
we hoped that God would provide
a new bus for us. Our prayers
have been answered.”
